Campaign Story
Over the years, recitals have become an annual tradition for the graduating student artists of the Philippine High School for the Arts, and their last offering to Maria Makiling - the guardian diety of Mount Makiling. But now that two years have passed, we also offer these recitals to our motherland and fellow countrymen in hopes of reaching out to them. The past is not only there to admire, but we also believe that it is the key to bettering our futures as both individuals and as a nation.
Two years ago, we presented Halupi: Spirits of Remembrance, as an ode to the past -a fond glance back at what had transpired, and the treasures we picked up.
Now, we present to you Hudhud
A hudhud "consists of narrative chants traditionally performed by the Ifugao community, which is well known for its rice terraces that extends over the highlands of the northern island of the Philippine archipelago (...) [it] comprises more than 200 chants, each divided into 40 episodes. A complete recitation may last more than several days."
We liken our final series of recitals to the hudhud not solely because this event transpires over the course of more than several days (months even) but because, like the hudhud, we consider these performances to be the crystallization of culture and keen observation.
Each recital has been carefully thought over and curated by master teachers from each art field. We meticulously wove and constructed these performances and pieces in order to to not just shed light on certain stories, but ask provoking questions about ourselves as Filipinos and the environment around us.
This campaign is to help cover the Philippine High School for the Art's graduating batch of 2019, Jose Joya-Severino Montano's (aka Batch Jarmonya) miscellaneous fees for graduation and/or recollection.
