Campaign Story
Double bassist Mark Haynes, age 23, is from Trinidad. He began playing at the age of 12, and during the course of his career, he has reached many milestones. As a way of giving back to his community, Mark started teaching lower strings and music theory to pupils from his alumni Primary school in 2016. He was accepted after auditioning for a seat in Trinidad and Tobago's National Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018. Also in 2018, Mark enrolled in the University of Trinidad and Tobago to pursue his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music. He was given the opportunity to work as a teaching artist in 2020 at Guardian of Sound, Pittsburgh, PA, where he instructed lower strings and an ensemble. In 2022, Mark earned his four-year Bachelor's degree, completed his grade five music theory ABRSM with honours, got a distinction in his grade eight double bass practical, and performed an outstanding final recital for his neighbourhood. Mark is now also the principal double bassist at the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago!
The funds you kindly send will go towards a double bass (instrument) for Mark so he can continue pursuing his dreams and sharing his knowledge!
