Campaign Story
This funding page has been set up to support small dog home boarding and day care business owners affected by the new Licensing of Animal Activities Regulation issued by Defra.
Although we broadly welcome the reform, it’s become clear the guidance that tells local authorities how to implement it needs some revisions to ensure the regulations meet their original intentions and are implemented consistently across different council areas.
This view is supported by over 16,000 people who have signed a petition asking for the guidance to be given a second look.
In particular there is a need to address differences in rules for different activities, ensure the licence fees are proportionate and meet the governments own standards and that the number of dogs cared for is calculated in a consistent way that takes into account the environment and dog's needs.
These changes are important for both individual dog’s welfare and preventing the closure of businesses that provide essential care for thousands of pets across the UK.
The funds raised here will be used to cover costs, such as professional legal advice to challenge unfair guidance and fees and/or raising publicity surrounding the issue.
It’s difficult to predict in advance how much this process may cost, so we will donate any surplus to a nominated charity based on a poll being voted on by fellow boarding and daycare businesses which will be updated when the poll ends

Such comfort to know these lovely ladies have been fighting on our behalf. Not sure I even earn enough to need a licence, but while I care for dogs I will carry on renewing as I feel the licence will open other opportunities and show recognition to how serious we are about what we do.

Fantastic News!!
Update posted by Barking Mad Team at 04:45 pmOk. So the meeting went really well. They were very open to our thoughts and were genuinely shocked at the disparity across LA's regarding interpretation of the regs, fees and the double and triple fees across the 2 and 3 year licences. They are going to go away and look. . . . .
Great News!!!!!
Update posted by Barking Mad Team at 04:55 pmFor those of you that don't know yet, Marie and Suzi (members of Team Barking Mad) have been asked to meet DEFRA in London to discuss our concerns. We as a team feel that they should not be left out of pocket for this trip on our behalf. As such
