Banana Beach & Friends Otres 2 Fire Fund

On the afternoon of the 5th January 2017, several businesses on Otres 2 in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, were devastated by a big fire. Most of the businesses were beach bars, shops and bungalows with wooden walls and grass roofs, so the fire quickly took hold and a strong westward wind resulted in the fire rapidly spreading to neighbouring businesses. While all the locals, expats and tourists tirelessly battled the flames with buckets of water from the ocean, it took several fire trucks a few hours to get the fire under control and prevent it from spreading further.

Not only did the fire devastate businesses and livelihoods, but their staff and families also lost all of their personal belongings and their jobs. I am setting up this fundraiser to help our friends at Banana Beach rebuild their business and help everyone affected by the fire rebuild their lives. A true Otres legend, everyone who has crossed paths with Reng and the family from his Wish You Were Here days or visited Banana Beach knows how hard he has been working and how much family and community mean to him. He has pledged to support all of the staff and families who lost everything in the fire and all donations will be split evenly between the people who need it most.

Any donation is welcome, no matter how little you can spare, it will all mean the world to these amazing families who have been left with absolutely nothing.
