My name is Didi Suprapta. I am a tour guide, a travel agent owner in Bali called Bali Adventours. The company was one of the best tour operator in Bali and awarded as Traveler's Choice by Tripadvisor.com on 2020. See Bali Adventours Tripadvisor Page for more info.
I was working with 25 lovely drivers and guides. All of their income is from tourism. The income for the majority of Balinese families is 100% derived from tourists. Due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions, my drivers and guide no longer have an income due to the collapse of the tourism industry. Yes, COVID-19 hits us so hard!
Nearly all of Bali’s population of 4 million are either directly or indirectly dependent on tourism, and most have now lost their jobs or are on leave without pay. There is no government welfare system to support them, and with a minimum wage of just a few hundred dollars a month, nearly everyone lives pay cheque to pay cheque with little or no savings.
Here is just some sad news from our team:
- Naya is now selling food and only make $5 a day. Only enough for one day for entire family. He sold his only car to feed his family.
- Puni and his wife is now open a small shop and only make about $7 a day.
- Dastra is back to farming, helping his father on the farm.
- and many more....
All of them now are jobless. It is my responsibility to keep them and their family to have a job.
I plan to work with them to develop sustainable farming and planting fruits and vegetables. As a start I have build an application called Lapak Sayur which is a shopping application for people to buy and sell vegetable and fruits. When they produce enough vegetable and fruits, they will sell it on the app.
Check out this article on The Australian and Mongabay, about what I have done to develop sustainable farming and help the farmers with the application
What I want to do is I want to teach them to work as a farmer. I need some cash to rent a farm, to educate them with proper farming technology. Then help them to sell their products on Lapak Sayur Application. I don't enough cash, that's why I am asking you to help us!
If you can spare just a few dollars, that’s enough to make a difference to an individual or a small family, and will help the communities to survive the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak, and build another source of income outside of tourism business.
Your help is counted. When COVID-19 is gone, and you have a chance to travel to Bali, I will provide a free tour, based on how much money you donate to our community. Please check Reward section to see what will you get if you donate.
We want this project to be as transparent as possible so that you can see the great impact of your donation. In this info sheet, which will be regularly updated.
If you have a spare dollar please donate, if you don’t have a spare dollar but have a spare minute please share, and if you’re feeling really generous do both!
Please note if you are having any issues donating or donating from Bali try using VPN it may help.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Didi and all of your lovely Bali Driver...
