The Community Legal Fund was created in 2021, after Taylor McNallie and Jack Mori were arrested outside the Calgary Courts Centre for their participation in the 14-day #DoneWithDunnYYC protests that demanded the firing of Const. Alex Dunn who violently assaulted the late Dalia Kafi in 2017.

Taylor was given 7 criminal charges over the span of the 14-day protest. During her arrest, she was held in a knee-neck restraint which resulted in a large chunk of hair being pulled from the back of her head. Jack received 3 criminal charges that were later dropped while Taylor was made to face a 3-day trial in March of 2023.

Funds raised in this campaign were to help support Taylor and Jack with any legal fees they incurred through this process. Since its creation, the fund has been able to support 6 people with their retainer fees who had been charged with various offences in acts of protest, as well as provide mutual aid to help lessen the financial burden that comes with legal abuse.
Retainer fees often begin at $5,000, which is just a down payment for services; there is usually more fees to follow. This is why it’s important we work together in creating a safety net for those on the frontlines who become targeted by law enforcement. We invite you to donate to the Community Legal Fund today to continue to support protestors and land defenders in the event they are arrested and/or charged through over-policing tactics.

An N95 is not a disguise, it’s PPE. It protects against threats to human health (airborne pathogens during an ongoing pandemic and unhealthy air quality). The police have NO authority or right to endanger someone’s health.
