We're in the fourth year of the Gloucestershire cull now and it feels like we haven't stopped since the summer of 2012! Since the end of last year's cull, we sabbed local fox and hare hunts until the beginning of April, often being out 4 or 5 times a week and often going out early in order to look for blocked badger setts.
Once the hunting season ended, we got stuck in straight away with sett-surveying in the potential new areas in the Cotswolds and Herefordshire (both areas where we sab and monitor hunts on a regular basis) and we've been out almost every day until now.
We're preparing for the cull to begin again within the next couple of weeks and are already out in the fields checking for illegal persecution, hunts beginning the cub-hunting part of their season and signs that the cull is imminent. The cost of fuel obviously builds up over the days and weeks and, despite attending numerous fayres over the summer to raise awareness and funds, money is used much more quickly than hoped!
We'll be supporting several of our sabs in the upcoming culls and many of us go out on our own or in pairs - we don't go around as one group in a vehicle - which means we keep an eye on more areas, but it also means that costs are higher. £300 should give us some extra help in the first couple of weeks of the cull and we want to hit the ground running when it all kicks off.
Can you support us by donating money or sharing our fundraising appeals throughout the cull? Check out our facebook page and website to see what we have been up to and if you would like to support our continuing work!
Thank you! 3C
