Hello my dear friends!

This is my first time doing something like that, but I'm reaching out for your help!

As most of you know, I'm traveling in Chile at the moment. I had the chance to spend two wonderful weeks on Easter island, but my stay on the island ended up in a nightmare! The day before my departure, I rented a scooter. I went around the island, and when I came back, I parked the scooter on the Main Street where hundreds of other vehicules are parked. The next day, 3 hours before my departure flight, I was gonna return the scooter....but oh surprise! It's not there anymore. My scooter got stolen, and without the keys, since I had them in my hands. I went around with a friend to try and find it, no luck. I then reached out to the police and made a report for them to try and find it, no luck either. It's been two weeks now, and no sign of the scooter. The craziest thing is that it's such a small island, how is it possible to lose track of a scooter? As many of you might think, it's probably a set up, yes. But the problem is I have no way to prove it, no legal resources, and I'm not even on the island anymore.

Now you might ask yourself : but it's a stolen vehicule, it's a matter for the police, what's the problem ?

Well the problem my friends, is that the scooter was not insured! Don't ask me why, but none of the vehicules on the island have insurances, which is insane to my opinion, but I did sign a contract without really reading all the specifics since those contracts always say the same thing (or so I thought!!)

I made a mistake, I know, but damn I also got very unlucky since the police told me this never happens to tourists normally...what are the chances! Now, they want to charge me 800.000 Chilean pesos for the scooter, which is the equivalent of almost 1700$ Canadian dollar.

The company is harassing me everyday over the phone to pay for the scooter. In theory, they have the rights to bring me to court if I don't pay, because I signed a contract.

I reached out to the Canadian embassy, and also tried to get legal advices, but let me tell you those matters are not easy when you're abroad. Both sides couldn't do anything for me.

So here is my last resort! As you know, money doesn't grow on tree, I'm traveling, currently not working, and they want me to pay ASAP because the scooter is a "working tool". I won't be able to exit Chile until this matter is solved, since they have my passport number and can stop me at the airport. The police is involved, so I definitely want to solve this problem gently. Since I don't seem to be able to get any support here in the country, I thought I might be able to get some help from the community!

It took me days to finally make this decision to reach out to you all, since it's really hard to ask for financial help. But I thought to myself, in the end, I have nothing to lose but a piece of pride and dignity 😌

I calculated, If every single of my Facebook friends donate an amount of 4$, the cost of this damn scooter is gonna be covered in no time 😊

If you feel like helping my cause, every single tiny amount is welcomed!

Thank you so much for your help and understanding, all I wish is for this nightmare to be being me ✌🏻

Version française !

Bonjour mes amis,
