Austin Police Officer Christopher Taylor needs your help!
While serving the Austin community in April of 2020, Christopher was involved in a shooting, which tragically ended in the loss of life. At the time of the shooting, Christopher was not even attached to a patrol unit, but due to the aggressive dismantlement and defund campaign of the Austin Police Department by the Austin City Council, there was a shortage of officers. Christopher and others would often help respond to the emergencies when the number of calls exceeded the staff on hand. After the shooting, there were two investigations – one internal and an external one by the Texas Rangers. Neither found cause for charges.
However, the newly elected Austin District Attorney, Jose Garza, had different ideas based on an anti-law enforcement agenda. On the campaign trail this last year, months before he was elected into office, he said, “Right now my focus is on the families. My heart breaks for the Ramos and Ambler families as they continue to wait for justice. I look forward to fighting for justice for them.” Garza made this statement long before the facts of Christopher’s case were available for his review. His prejudicial attitude toward police officers, especially Christopher, is clear.
Christopher received a “true bill” indictment on March 10, 2021.This means the prosecution presented their evidence without the defense having a voice at all. Garza, behind closed doors and with no outside observers, decided exactly what was presented to the jury while the defense was not able to challenge any of the allegations or make presentations of their own. Given his public statements made about this case long before it got to the grand jury, it is very unlikely that Garza’s presentation was fair or impartial to Christopher.
Christopher has served honorably during his seven years with the Austin Police Department. He has impacted countless lives, like the domestic abuse victims he intervened for as well as the children he protected from violent offenders. He often went “above and beyond” his job requirements, like offering help and a ride to an elderly homeless woman who had been kicked off a city bus. Christopher has an enormous heart for service and genuine love for his fellow man.
Christopher hails from a family that has served in various law enforcement capacities. He has dedicated his life to doing the right thing, even as a teenager and young adult when his friends made different choices. Christopher has stayed firm and resolute on his path of integrity. His character remains steady and focused. He is exactly the person every community wants to take the daunting oath “to protect and defend”.
Now with his first child on the way, Christopher and his family are fighting for his freedom. During these times in which elected officials are caving to the political pressure, please do not abandon this young man who has dedicated his life to doing the right thing and helping others. Please send a message to DA Garza that normal law-abiding citizens across this great nation believe in the police and value the safety they provide. Please do not let a young officer fall victim to the political games of a newly elected DA with a reckless agenda.
With the indictment, Christopher is suspended without pay from the Austin Police Department. He is not the kind of person who asks for help, so I am asking for him. The money raised will be used for legal fees and living expenses, while he looks for work to support his family. Thank you for your prayers and support. I will continue to update this page as Christopher’s fight unfolds.
