Hi everyone! Thank you for taking your time to read up about my campaign. I am Dennis Ng from Singapore. I have actually graduated from University at Buffalo (Singapore Campus), with a degree in Economics. However, the reason for this successful achievement was due to family reasons. I was obliged, by my family, to enroll into a university and course I never wanted to - Business Administration. I only had one of two options, personally - Theatre OR Theology. Neither of which my family were willing to sponsor. I obeyed and went to UB-SIM to take on the BA course, during which I switched to Economics as I found it to be more informative and educational for me. I found that it added value to my life. Still, it was not a career I had intended to pursue. At that time, I was still figuring out a path for myself in the long run.
I worked as a recruiter after I graduated, hoping to redeem myself of my opportunities and really pursue something that I was confident to do. It was a year later after my first job that I learned that I really have a knack of history, a part of my education I neglected. I am actually a history and theology nerd. I have been studying the BIble and ancient history (up to the 1600s) for at least 12 years of my life now. I'm always digging up research on Bible stuff (historical context). I am actually hoping to pursue a PhD in Theology in the future. I've prayed long and hard about this and I believe this is my call.
I have been been doing my own Christian History and Archaeological studies in context to the Bible for about 3 years now but I am limited in my resources. I am hoping to pursue this long term. I recently learned about International Christian University, in Tokyo, and I am keen to enroll myself into that campus. It offers a 5-year program (4-year Bachelor (Honors) + 1-year Masters). The summary of the story is that, I have finally discovered which career path I should be walking down and where I intend to be in the next ten years, and I hope to get some financial support to at least be able to kick start my journey of redemption and my future.
I have to take my Bachelors again because I can't do a Masters in History/Archaeology without a Bachelors Degree in History. So I will appreciate it if I could receive funding from people who see value in my career goals and my choice of education. During the ten years, I will be working as a historian (mainly as an academic and as a researcher). I will start my career either as a lecturer or a historian at a museum, during which I will begin my research.
I didn't earn a lot during my time as a recruiter. I have about just enough to cover the cost for my matriculation fee and the first term of school, but not the full first year. I am hoping to get funding for at least the first 3 years of my education, and take on some part-time jobs to earn money to pay for the remaining 2 years of my education. The money will only go to my tuition fees and accommodation (I'll be putting up in a dorm or sharing an apartment with someone). None of the money will go to my living expenses (I'll work for those too).
The total amount I will need to cover the cost is about ¥7,300,000.00 (Japanese Yen). You can go to this link for the break down cost: https://www.icu.ac.jp/en/campuslife/finance/index....
Term starts in April 2019. Registration begins August 2018.
To ensure I do not misuse the funds, I will provide a detailed account of my spending every month to everyone who contributes to my education, just like how an annual report is prepared for the investors of a company, from tuition fees down to my transportation and meals. This means I will also provide a detailed account of any amount I earn from my part-time jobs. This accounting will be on a quarterly basis.
In exchange for the funding, I am willing to do a few things:
1. Make sure I score at least a 3.5-3.8/4.0 on my GPA every term.
2. Make sure I graduate.
3. Upon graduation, I will return the money to those who are donating to my education as a loan.
4. I will remember the names and faces of those that gave.
If you'd like to ask me any questions before deciding to donate, you may contact me via email ([email protected]). We can clarify things from there.
