Campaign Story
Baby Maddie is suffering from blood cancer Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) diagnosed on June 8, 2017. She is only 1 year and 6 months old and a premature born baby at 8 months.
When baby Maddie was still in her mom's tummy, the ultrasound revealed that she had underdeveloped intestines (duodenal atresia). She also has a slightly enlarged heart per 2D echo result. Mom also has this health condition and was advised that she has to give birth sooner. Before her scheduled CS came, several ultrasounds were done further and they found that Maddie's internal organs were now normal! On Nov 20, 2015, baby Maddie was born - without the need for incubation, eventhough she came out a little too soon at 8 months. Though she was very small at 2.2kg, she was healthy, but the doctors advised that she has to be taken extra care of.
Baby Maddie grew up smart and healthy. She was a happy baby! At the age of 1yr and 4months, she can already sing along with nursery rhymes, she knows most of the letters in the alphabet and can recognize numbers and colors correctly. Everything was going very well and we were all very happy. Until...
On May 29, baby Maddie had a very high fever. Her fever kept getting higher and higher, and didn't seem to go lower than 38.8 On May 31 ealy morning, we rushed her to the hospital. Lab tests showed that her platelet was below normal! So she was given dextrose for antibiotics. After days of monitoring, her platelet didn't seem to improve. We felt that we had to do somethingelse since baby was getting paler and weaker every hour. We then decided to seek second opinion. We transferred her to another hospital (Medical City).
The blood tests in the new hospital showed abnormality - hemoglobin, platelet, whiteblood cells and all other properties were all below normal. Due to this, the doctors suggested a blood transfusion and a bone marrow test. Blood transfusion was done on June 6, and then the bone marrow test after, in which the results will be given in 2 days. At that time, we were already down our knees praying so hard that these are not some serious condition. What could something terrible possibly happen to a little angel like our Maddie? She's just 1yr and 5months old. She was such an adorable child. We were very careful of her. She was our princess! Definitely, this too, shall pass. On June 8, we were told. The bone marrow test said that baby Maddie has Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia - a type of blood cancer most common to children.
Those three unfamiliar words - stabbed our hearts almost to death. The feeling is indescribable. How I wish these were all a dream, and we would wake up and forget about everything. Unfortunately, it wasn't. After several minutes, hours, we knew we had to face reality - we had to know what is to be done next.
Same with most cancers, the doctors said she will have to undergo chemotherapy for 3 yrs, as many as necessary. As to the total amount, we are not sure yet. Aside from these therapies, they may be other only God knows what things to be considered. We were not ready for all of these. We're all emotionally and financially close to drained, but rich / abundant spiritual faith keeps us strong to fight for our stronger Maddie. We are not losing hope. We will win this fight.
As of the moment, baby Maddie already had her 2 chemo sessions. Her condition went better after the sessions. 3yrs to look forward to and a miracle.
The first few days alone already costed us around 300k. Her mom is a stay-at-home wife and her dad doesn't have a permanent job, and we, her sisters are doing our best to help, but honestly, we don't know how we are going to sustain baby's medical and hospitalization needs.
With this, we hope and pray for God's mercy, and for you to help us in our battle. We are not asking for so much, just a little which your generous hearts would like to give, will mean a lot to us.
It will be of great help if you can share this to other people by posting it on your walls, so it may reach more kind hearts. Thank you ad God bless you!

Baby Maddie's heart
Update posted by Michelle Garcia at 03:00 amCurrently, the doctors are curing Maddie's heart due to the unnecessary fluids found during the 2D echo ultrasound and ECG test last June 9, 2017. According to the doctors, it has to be cured as most of the medicines she'll be taking will affect her heart
