Hi, my name is Simone Franken (13 years old) this is my dream to help Carryn Beukes.
When there was a slim to none chance for me as a small child she was
my anchor and she loved me unconditionally. Even though she isn't my
nanny any more she is still my friend and I love her. No matter what
your background, be the change you want to see so please help me to
help Carryn feel like she still has a purpose in life to make a
difference even though she is paralyzed she has the gift to change
children's lives.
Carryn Beukes as a 21 year old was in a serious life changing accident
on 27th of June 2008 she was thrown out of the car and even though she
was conscious her only words over and over were i can't feel my legs.
After being rushed to hospital by medics she was diagnosed
that her vertebrae C6 & C7 in her spinal column were completely broken.
Carryn and her family was told that this was permanent with no chance
what so ever of recovery. The result of this break meant that she is
paralyzed from chest to toe for life and will NEVER have any sensation
from her chest down EVER again in life, she has limited use of her arms.
because her lungs also collapsed and with that and her broken neck
she struggles with breathing, sneezing, coughing and laughing and
she has no bladder bowl control which is everyday normal things for
most people.
Another result of this is her immune system failing continuously and
the spinal cord complete break
prevents the brain from telling her muscles to relax result being
spasms which sometimes are so bad she falls out of bed and she lives in
constant pain, depression and often has chest infections. And with no
medical aid and extra care this is a nightmare to manage. there is no
proper Medical system available in S.A. that can provide the care and
equipment needed without a medical aid.
Medical treatment is very basic and expensive in South Africa
So my efforts are to help Carryn with her life long struggle by
improving her quality of life and let her still live her dream of
working with kids.
* Medical expenses
*the equipment & technology to support her independence
*Housing and care
The Christopher Reeve Foundation estimates lifetime costs for this
condition between 3-4 and half million Dollars. And between the year
2015 and 2017 the costs were raised by almost 60 000 Dollars.
Carryn and her family desperately need your support to better her quality of life please
lets pay it forward and make a difference in at least one family’s life
your help WILL make a difference.
Nelson Mandela often said It takes a village to raise a child so with
your help we can be Carryn's village.
