Baby for Kate and Steve

Katie has been a close friend of mine since primary school and last year she was over the moon to announce that her and her partner Steve were expecting their first child together.

However, Katie suffers from a genetic condition called Marfan's Syndrome. One of the most serious risks of this condition can be an aortic dissection (a sudden and serious event where the layers of the aorta separate causing it to tear). Due to the extra strain on the body, coupled with a surge in hormones during pregnancy, Katie's aorta unexpectedly dissected. Katie almost lost her life but thanks to emergency treatment was saved. Sadly, at almost 16 weeks pregnant Katie and Steve lost their baby

They have been strongly advised by her cardiologist that Katie should never conceive again as it will almost certainly cost her her life. This is understandably devastating news for Katie and Steve who, like most of us have always dreamt of having children and can't imagine life otherwise.

After a lot of thought they have decided that surrogacy is the best option for them and have found a perfect surrogate to carry their child. But obviously the huge commitment from this amazing woman, both mentally and physically comes with a financial cost. She is not looking for financial gain but medical expenses, including the cost of a private fertility clinic will amount to £15,000.

This is is a huge amount of money for them to raise on their own, they have some saved up and are keen to pay as much as they can themselves, but it seems the total amount is unreachable. If we could raise half of this for a lovely couple who want what most of us take for granted, it will help to give them the most precious gift anyone could ask, something that is truly priceless.
