Last January 23, 2017, my wife Jenny complained of abdominal pain and was rushed to the hospital. On her pelvic ultrasound, it showed that her cervix is already 4cm dilated. The hospital did not allow her to go home and was immediately scheduled for cervical cerclage. After the surgery, she was confined at the Intensive Maternal Unit (IMU). She was on complete bed rest with no bathroom privilege. She was given Magnesium Sulfate for neuroprotection and Bethamethasone so our baby's lungs will mature. She stayed in the IMU for 2 weeks for close monitoring since in her previous pregnancy, she also gave birth to a 24 weeker premature baby. Unfortunately, our darling daughter passed on after 3 days. So this time around, the doctors want to save the baby since he has bigger chances of surviving compared to the first baby.

On Feb 7, 2017, Ethaniel Bryley was born at 10:02am via ceasarian section due to fetal bradycardia. He was 865 grams. His gestational age was 27 4/7 weeks at birth, which is 9 weeks early. He was admitted at the high risk level of the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit).

On the same day, different tests was done to him. Chest xray revealed surfactant deficiency. He was immediately intubated and hooked to a ventilator to assist him in his breathing. When he was extubated, oxygen support was given via nasal cannula. He had occasional desaturations and developed physiological jaundice up to the thigh. At that time, he was given breastmilk via Orogastric Tube (OGT). Overhead phototheraphy was initiated to manage his jaundice. He was also given Salbutamol nebulization for bronchodilation.

On Feb 17, he was observed to have sleep apnea, Because of that, he was given anhydrous caffeine once a day. And half sachet of human milk fortifier was incorporated into his feeding. Slowly, he started to gain weight and showed signs of improvement.

He is amazingly strong and a little fighter! We are so blessed that despite everything, he's showing us that he can get through it all. But we know these coming months of care are crucial. We can only hope and pray for the best outcome.

Bryley's been at the NICU for more than one month now. My wife Jenny and I are asking for financial assistance since our healthcards do not cover this type of confinement. All of the expenses are out of the pocket and we have exhausted all our savings. His stay in the NICU is undefined yet as he's still under observation.

Any amount that you can give would be very much appreciated. And if giving is not available to you at this time, we would like to request to please include Bryley in your prayers. We would also request to help us share our little warrior's journey by forwarding to friends, family and colleagues.. We want to focus as much energy as possible to our baby boy and make sure she comes home. THANK YOU!!!
