Hello everyone! My name is Meg. I am President of our small LGBTQ organization here in Babak District in our small island town called Samal in the southern part of the Philippines. Our organization is composed of LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender, Questioning) members from age 15 and above. Majority of our members are young and unemployed but extremely talented and skillful. There are some who get by from little rackets they can get their hands on on a daily basis, most of which are in the fields of beauty and styling.
We founded the org back in 2017 but have only recently been active this year due to the lack of guidance and support, both morally and financially. Thus, we are reaching out to many of you who we consider LGBTQ allies and supporters to help us build a strong and independent organization.
Our organization shall work toward building and sustaining a safe, harmonious, inclusive, and equitable environment for ALL the members of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies. We aim to promote and assure visibility and a sense of community amongst our members and the peoples who embrace and support our life choices, which include our family, friends and neighbors alike. We are committed to building an environment that does not only encourage camaraderie but promote livelihood and economic development productivity, leadership, cultural diversity sensitivity and a healthy and high quality of life.
We are challenged by the fact that we do not have the resources and the right machinery to realize our objectives. Unfortunately, our local government, though tolerant of our marginalized sector, does not have the means (and probably lack serious interest) to fully support our cause. As a result, we are left to fend on our own.
We are reaching out to all of you who care and understand our cause to lend us a hand by donating as we continue the fight to be heard, to be seen and to co-exist.
Any donations will be used to fund the following:
1. Build a sustainable livelihood project for our members which aims to alleviate their way of life.
2. To allocate funding for our members with physical (possibly mental as well) disability and the elderly who need assistance.
3. Early this year, we started a program we call Connect-A-Child, through which we aim to let children see us for who we are and that we are no different from the rest of the world. We held small parties with food, entertainment, fun games and prizes. We aim to change perceptions and start with little kids. To connect with them in little ways that they can understand. We believe that the minds of the children are a powerful tool in making a better world in the future and that the future of the LGBTQ people can change through them. We hope to make a stop on bullying, hypocrisy and ignorance by attempting to change negative impressions about the LGBTQ community through the young minds of the children. This we hope we can continue to foster and do for many years to come
Thank you for your support and more power!
