¡GRACIAS!

LET’S HELP ONELIA REBUILD AFTER HURRICANE MARIA

Activist and community organizer Onelia Perez Rivera has lost her home and many of her belongings after hurricane Maria’s path of destruction through Puerto Rico. She is a valuable and selfless community asset who has spent the last 25 years working for the wellbeing of women domestic violence survivors in the mountains of PR. For most of that time she helped create and run the Center for a New Woman and Family in the town of Barranquitas. Before that, she spent years as a leader in the Puerto Rican community in Philadelphia during her time living and studying there. Just now, Onelia was beginning to reach her dream of serving affordable healthy food in a small business she named “A Taste of Hendaye.” Then hurricane Maria arrived. Onelia saw with her own eyes how the winds ripped off the roof of her small mountain home, which she had made into a cozy home with care and love. Should this happen to anyone, it would be completely unfair; in Onelia’s case it’s even more unfair given all she has done by devoting her life to help and serve the community.

Those of us fortunate to know Onelia know that always her main focus is helping those in need; she is one of the most selfless people you’ll ever meet, always committed to her community. The crisis generated by hurricane Maria demands that we spring into action to support the one who has always generously supported us with her strength, her courage, her hard work, her smile, her wisdom and her delicious food.

This is the time to support Onelia. She needs us. Let’s help her raise her home and livelihood again. This is where we need everyone’s help. Please contribute as much as you can, any little bit helps. Then please help spread the word about this effort. Sharing this information is just as important as contributing. If we all share this link with 10 contacts and they do it with other 10, we will all help our sister in no time. Thank you!
