The 'Badger Cull' has taken place in numerous parts of England since 2013. In 2018, the government expanded the area for badger culling, bringing the total to 31 zones. Reports have suggested that during 2018 alone, 32,000 badgers were brutally Killed.

Despite mounting evidence that culling badgers is ineffective in controlling bTB, the government is still planning on rolling the cull out to new areas this year. Unfortunately, it appears this will include Avon.....

Who We Are:

Avon Against the Badger Cull (AABC) are a group of wildlife enthusiasts, who believe that the best way to oppose the cull and to save the lives of badgers is to be present in the cull zone, directly fighting against the cull to protect badgers. AABC is run purely by volunteers, who work throughout the year to ensure that we can be prepared for the cull season. We will be hosting many fundraisers between now and the cull.

During the Cull Season in 2018, AABC were anticipating the cull to be rolled out into Avon. Luckily, Avon did not get their license to legally cull badgers, at least not for 2018. Therefore, AABC teamed up with Somerset Against the Badger Cull, and we spent 7 weeks out in the cull zone in Somerset, directly putting up a fight against the Badger Cull. Sadly, it is looking very likely that the licensing for the cull will be rolled out into Avon in 2019.

To be able to effectively fight against the cull and to be present in the cull zones every day of the cull, we need more support.

Therefore, to raise much needed funds, members of AABC will be running 13.5 miles in the Ciderthon on the 5th of May, 2019.

Please sponsor us to raise funds to support our work. We need to raise enough funds to cover the following costs:

£98 could cover the cost of 4 high lumen torches.

£1500 could pay for a new, mid range Thermal Imaging Camera. This is a vital piece of equipment to enable us to identify the location of the wildlife we need to protect, as well as where the shooters may be hiding.

£85 could cover the cost of 10 O/S maps.

£240 could cover the cost of a good quality body camera, which can capture good footage at night. This is another vital piece of equipment, as we often come across illegal activity against wildlife at night, and without decent evidence, prosecution is unlikely.

Fuel Costs to Cover the Entire Cull: £1500. This would help us ensure that AABC can be present in the cull zone throughout the duration of the cull.
