Hi everyone! I am Avery Vogt. I have been an adventure seeker since the day I could walk. The many trials and tribulations of this last year have shaken my life in many ways. I committed to play collegiate volleyball in July 2020. The plan had gone smoothly until I realized I could no longer afford to go to the college. This period of ambiguity was one of the most stressful times in my life. I had begun applying aimlessly to any colleges that were accepting applications. After many long talks, my parents and I decided a gap year was the way to go. After two years of hard work at the community college, I am already almost two years into my undergraduate degree. Taking time to experience life outside the norm fascinated me. I stumbled upon International Volunteer Headquarters. This program connects people to volunteer opportunities all around the world. I fell in love with this idea. I began to run numbers and financially it will not be cheap but I strongly believe my experience will be worth it. As for what I have decided to do! The first trip will be in the fall and to Split, Croatia (seen in the second and third pictures). Five days a week I will be volunteering in an animal shelter helping cats and dogs find loving homes. The second trip I would be going on is to Suva, Fiji (seen in the fourth and fifth pictures and video at beginning). Here I would be teaching local youth sports after school five days a week. Combining my love of sports and helping children would be a tremendous experience. For both these programs, I have not decided the exact length of each trip but it would span a total of 12-24 weeks. As more is decided I will be updating. After this gap year, I will be reapplying to college in the fall of 2022 to further my education. My goal is to complete college in four years with a Master’s in clinical psychology. Do not feel obligated to donate. Any help is fantastic but just having the support of my friends and family is appreciated enough. In fact, to show my appreciation, I plan on showing my experiences on my social media platforms. Thank you so much for your time.
