Baby, you’re doing something I never had the balls to do.” That’s what Dad said to me when I told him I was opening the studio. I was expecting to have to defend my decision, but there was none of that. He was fully supportive – and hands-on right up until the day before his doctor’s appointment that resulted in his last open-heart surgery on August 1, 2011. That was the day we hung the disco ball in the ballroom.  2 years later, I find myself in a very uncomfortable position. I was taken advantage of by a shoulda-woulda-coulda-been business partner who cost me $70K+, my excellent credit score, and more in just over a year’s time. We’ve had to rebrand and rebuild and now – we are $6K behind on rent with next month’s rent looming. The landlord is chomping at the bit and things are looking grim. The summer has been deathly slow. I’m out of money and ideas. I need a miracle. Angel investors. A healthy influx of of patrons who bring all their friends and their friends’ friends. A buyer. A lottery win. All the things. I’m swallowing my pride (big big BIG gulp) and asking for help. I don’t know what else to do. I’ve exhausted all the options. Thanks for your support and for your ears.

That was a plea from my very dear friend Tara, the owner of our beloved Ballroom.  I am setting up a fundraiser in the hopes that other people out there with love and dance and empathy in their hearts will hear us out and help support us.

This ballroom has changed so many lives, to include my own. I am Kerra, U.S. Army and currently deployed to Afghanistan, where I wait almost impatiently to get home and start dancing again.  The teachers and Tara have touched lives in a way that words can never explain.

The money collected from the fundraiser goes strictly to the ballroom. It will help get the studio out of debt, help the rent be paid, and fix the flooring of the ballroom.  Your donations not only keep our beautiful ballroom open, but it keeps the dance in our hearts and our friendships flourshing. God Bless you all.
