Ava’s Story: No Child Should Suffer

Ava being our first born has been so special to us & she has brought so much happiness into our lives. Who would have ever imagined , that when she suddenly stopped walking at 15months , the news she had Ewing Sarcoma would forever change our lives. She had a large mass 9.8 cm x 8.8 cm in her pelvis that attached to her spine. Since her Diagnosis on January 29th , Ava has been going through Chemotherapy & is expected to be in treatment well into June 2016. Her team of Drs. at Memorial Sloan Kettering has been aggressively treating her Cancer (which is not common in children her age) By the time Ava turns 2 she will already have had 2 major surgeries. Her first surgery & radiation treatment back in April , was very successful. Ava gained some use of her left leg & w lots of therapy she has learned to walk again using a leg brace. Her smile & strength is what has kept us going. She is such a brave , strong & beautiful child. We will do whatever it takes to help her beat this!
Glenn & I are grateful that we have been able to get her the care she desperately needs , but realize that this will be a lifelong process for her.
Ava is a big sister to Identical Twin girls (Anneli Skye & Layla Rose ) born on January 25th from a Placental Abruption , the same night Ava was admitted into the to ER.
Unfortunately while we spend a lot of time getting Ava treatment both Inpatient & outpatient , our children also need care while my husband works & I attend to her. With limited help I have been unable to visit & care for my mother who has been disabled since 2009. Life is not perfect , but we take it one day at a time.
