The Autism Awareness advocacy project started last November 2017 without a name. It started with just a few materials - white cartolina, pencil and permanent marker. Spreading the awareness at first was not easy. It takes courage and openness to share the awareness. It started spreading from a Catholic charismatic community at Valle Verde, Pasig City with just a few people participating. After posting the dry-run campaign in a personal blog, it received wonderful feedback.
The name Autism Strong Philippines came up from the derivation of Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong campaign. Because two of the conveners were diagnosed with mild autism and had their strong advocacy in spreading the awareness, the Autism Strong Philippines was named last June 2018. It went on a dry-run process until it was launched December 2018. The conveners shared their experiences and promoted the campaign since October 2018 to various colleges and universities.
Through this advocacy project, we are raising awareness on the current status on autism in the Philippines. We are autism advocates seeking funding for the sustainability of this project in the long term. Your support for the project means a lot to us and to the persons with autism community. We will be forever thankful for your contributions.
