Hey Everyone, My name is Austen; I am a 19 year old college student from Arizona who is majoring in Political Science. I chose this degree because I enjoy politics and participating in government, and I feel like the US needs more politicians who have studied politics and enter office with the goal of bettering US communities rather than the parties to which they are affiliated. I have attended the Pima Community College for two years now and have been able to learn so much and earn good grades in the meantime. I have had the honor of being recognized for my achievements by the Phi Theta Kappa honors society, elected President of the Cru club at the East campus, and very recently accepted into the honors college of the University of Arizona. I would like to finish my associate’s degree at the end of this Fall semester and transfer to the University of Arizona. I have received transfer invitations from countless universities, including King's and Cornell University but my university of choice is the UA and I am already in the process of transferring. There is just one problem; studying at the UA costs about $6000 per semester! I would like to find a scholarship to assist in covering these costs but I haven't received any yet. Last summer I applied for over 30 separate scholarships but when the results came back it was always the same. Even though when I applied I had a past of community service, and a GPA of 3.9 that held little weight in earning the scholarship. The winners of all the scholarships I applied for were either from a minority group or female. I understand they need funding too, but it is disappointing that my chances of receiving funding to attend university aren’t based on merit but rather my skin color and gender. Student loans aren’t an option. That is why I have turned to this community to ask for any donations to help me achieve my goals. If you are able please give a little to help me attend the University of Arizona and reach my dream of entering the field of politics. THANKYOU!
