US$0.00Donated So Far
We will use all funds collelcted for the purpose of hiring an attorney to pursue changes in USFW policy as it relates to requirements, illegal lists, seizure of bengals, and CITES permits. 3.5% of all donations will be an administrative cost charged by the fundraiser servicing web site. Any money which remains in the fund at the end of the process will be donated to the WINN foundation or a bengal specific research charity.
We need to collect a minimum of $5,000.00 USD to retain an attorney to work toward having the 53 Bengals cats (and their descendants) which compile the “illegal list” forgiven so that all Bengal kittens and cats can be safely imported into the United States, and exported out of the US.
We are working toward having the “illegal list” overturned for the following reasons:
1) This prohibition affects breeders and bengal owners worldwide, as Gogees is a popular bloodline
2) The Gogees cattery is no longer breeding Bengals;
3) Breeders who are working with Gogees bloodlines in countries around the world should not be punished.
In early 2006 United States Fish & Wildlife (USFW) seized a kitten that was destined for Europe, because it was identified as a Domestic Shorthair (rather than a Bengal) and the shipper did not apply for a CITES Permit, nor a USFW Declaration/Inspection. This was the second time the breeder was caught shipping without USFW clearance (the first time was in August 2005) and therefore USFW instigated civil proceedings. During the investigation 53 Bengals were identified that had been illegally imported/exported by this breeder.
The “illegal list” is only applied within the United States, and has no validity/jurisdiction in any other country.
