My name is Ato Sam and I ask you for help with my spinal treatment.
A bit of my background:
I'm 26 years old (will turn 27 in January) and reside in Accra, Ghana. I'm a very curious individual and an avid reader.
Growing up, most of my time was spent peering into books. I wasn't very athletic because anytime I tried to play sports in school, both in Junior and Senior High, I got mocked for my coordination and the way I ran - in hindsight, I understand why my movement and coordination were messed up but the experiences made me pretty self-conscious and my self-confidence took quite a dip throughout my teenage years.
The back pain begun when I was fifteen and was given a pain relief ointment by a doctor for my back. That would be the only treatment I'll have for my back for the next decade. I'm the first born of 4 children and my family's finances wasn't so good so I decided to brace myself and look for some self-help alternatives.
Around this time I took an interest in bodybuilding and fitness and I remember seeing a diagram of what a poor posture looked like in a Mcgraw Hill fitness book I reading in my school's library. I recognised that as a posture similar to mine and after some more reading and research discovered that I had Lumbar Lordosis.
From then on, I worked towards getting some relief from my neck and back pain, and correcting my posture, by trying to strengthen the weak muscles and stretch the tight ones - because lumbar lordosis is basically caused by muscle imbalance.
Over the past 10 years, I have suffered many injuries in my attempt to fix this imbalance without the help of a professional.
Three month's ago, the pain and discomfort got worse - it feels as though my neck cannot support the weight of my head. By back has grown more painful and stiff, and whenever I walk, my steps are unsteady and I feel faint.
I took out my savings to visit a hospital and after consultating with a doctor and taking an X-ray, I was diagnosed with Scoliosis (thoracic and cervical) - which is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine.
The combination of scoliosis and lumbar lordosis is nothing short of musculoskeletal disaster - the pain and discomfort is just unbearable. My body feels like a garment that doesn't fit correctly.
Because I don't have health insurance, the consultations with the doctors, drugs for the pain and X-ray costs consumed all of my savings.
I was then asked to seek chiropractic and physiotherapy treatment.
A $1000 donation will help me undergo about 3 months of chiropractic treatment which involves:
*3 sessions per week for the first 6 weeks
*2 sessions per week for the next 4 weeks
*1 session per week for the last 4 weeks
I'm teaching myself to code and hope to get to secure a job as a web developer in a few months but I don't have a few months and the pain is negatively impacting my coding practice.
Currently, my left arm and leg feel light and numb. My condition is deteriorating fast and I don't have the funds to deal with it. Which is why I am appealing to the good samaritans out there to lend a brother a helping hand. I hope to start treatment before the month ends. I have endured this excruciating condition for too long and ask for your help in securing relief and helping me survive!
Please share if you can. Thank you for your support, your help and concern is very much appreciated.
