Thanks to the Government cutting Veterans Benefits, my VRAP (Veterans Retraining Assistance Program) will be ending March 1, 2014. As of March 1st, i will no longer be getting my Veterans Assistance to help me get through college. Because my last In Service Date was in 1974, I am not eligible for any of the "Post 911 GI Bill" Education Benefits. After spending numerous hours on the telephone with the Veterans Admiistration, I have been told there are NO education benefits that I qualify for.
So, now i find myself a full time student, 1/3 of the way through earning my Associates Degree in Culinary Arts, holding a strong 4.0 GPA with a perfect attendance record, and I am about to run into a road block that could possibly put an end to my education. I have been searching the internet diligently for grants and scholarships that i may qualify for and plan on continuing my search, but so far, no luck.
My business plan for when i graduate college, is to move back to Daytona Beach and open a "not for proffit" soup kitchen, with shelter and counciling, to help the extremely large amont of homeless and disabled veterans and thier families.
