Campaign Story
Hello! My name is Sigale Daley, a recent graduate from "The Montego Bay High School For Girls,” and I am a girl with a dream and a huge love for helping others. I have had a lifelong dream of being a surgeon who specializes in either neurology or cardiology. This love and passion for medicine started out when I was just nine years old, when I would help around with taking care of my grandmother , making sure her health numbers were okay and not too high or too low , taking notes of her daily heart rate , etc. And with all of that, I was rather intrigued by helping others.
Her passing is what pushed me even more to pursue medicine as a way of commemorating her and the love and support she gave me to go after my goal(s). My mother is a parent to three kids, and it really isn’t easy, for she is the only breadwinner in the family. With the loss of our grandma, she was the only one that we could really look to as a “parental figure”. She is a very hardworking person and sees to it that we are all okay and have the basic necessities for survival. As the oldest of the three, a lot of pressure is present, for a lot is expected of you and from you, so graduating from school without being kicked out of school or going stray in any other way has made her and myself really proud.
My wish is to become a surgeon, but I do have other plans as well when I do venture further into the medical field. For instance, I plan to try my best, with the help of our father in heaven , to change the way we Jamaicans approach each and everyone with their illnesses, infections , diseases , etc , for sometimes even the smallest things, effort, or care that a medical practitioner exhibits is enough to strike a sense of metamorphosis in our “medical sector” in Jamaica. 2. I plan to also try my best to at least develop a hospital in the city of Montego Bay, which I’m native to, reason for such a desire is to try to let people of any background come freely without having any second thoughts, knowing that they’ll be treated with the utmost respect, cared for within the “Hippocratic oath” , and most of all, have their medical issues taken care of. 3. The last goal that I plan to execute is to reconstruct this “Medical system“ of ours from the base of the organization to the head of it.
But with all of these plans and goals of mine comes a big issue that most students in our country face, and that is “Not being able to pursue something due to the lack of monetary support” , and unfortunately, I am one of the many students that faces this prevalent issue. The passion, the love, the want, the need, the knowledge, and the ability to make the change—all of those things are present in me, but the funds to execute this are honestly not there. I have begun the process of researching some universities, and I’ve fortunately found some very good ones, but my heart has been drawn to study in another country, i.e., Cuba. And I’ve been blessed enough to have gotten accepted into the “University of Medical Sciences” in Cuba.
Cuba is a Spanish-speaking country, which is also a great opportunity for me because I am an excellent Spanish speaker, and if it’s possible, studying there wouldn’t pose any issues for me because I am able to speak, write, and translate from Spanish to English. Another reason why I think Cuba would be best for me is that, honestly speaking, they boast the best medical education and system in the world, and studying in Cuba would or is going to per se set me apart from the rest, along with the prerequisites of medicine.
The organization that I’ve found to be the perfect one for me is called “Caribbean and Latin American Health and Education Limited,” and they are responsible for taking students from all over the world and giving them an opportunity to study in Cuba. With that said, I am hoping to raise enough funds to cover my school fees and also other fees so that I can be able to smoothly transition to begin classes in January withou any issues.
The cost for me to begin classes, which would start in January, as was said before, is 2.4 million JMD, along with fees for rent, insurance, food, and other expenses. And this is to be paid for or submitted to the organization "CubaHeal", by December 20 of this year or earlier to facilitate a smooth transfer of me from Jamaica to Cuba.
I am asking kindly if anyone is able to aid me in any way, shape, or form. I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you again for lending an ear.
