The experimental Digital Photobook

Title

The title derives from the character 遊, which means to play, to enjoy oneself in Japanese. With that in mind, this photo-book is an experiment for me, and a sort of enjoyable game.

Theme

Personally I enjoy combining a philosophical topic with an aesthetic perception. In broad terms the photo-book is a collection of portrait photography. I’ll be experimenting with a model and try to capture the emotions and the beauty of the model as “we play” with the camera.

Concept

Normally photographic sessions are very scripted, with a clear direction of what it is going to be. Instead of aiming for that professional feel, or heavy technical style, Asobu is a mosaic --rather free from-- collection. In which the model is also part of the creative process, as well as the subject of the shoot. Asobu is all about the fun and free flow of creativity. A scrapbook-ish look is also part of the visuals it will involve. In more clear way in Asobu the aesthetic of the scenery and the model I will try to blend with the atmosphere of the shootand environment.

Characteristics

One aspect that makes Asobu somewhat unique is that it is planned to be shoot using a mobile phone as the photographic platform --of course a adaptable kit is going to be used in order to achieve the most satisfactory results. The idea of it being free-forming, means it will require a lot of improvisation means it should be a very engaging work. Also it is an experimental book, this signify that all photographs will be unique as each one was an individual thought process. The photobook will have annotations by the photographer in some images and have some surprises which are part of the free-flowing process.
