Introduction

Hello, our names are Andrea Santana and Samantha DeVeau. We are the creators and producers of the Stand Clear of the Closing Doors 2013 documentary. Stand Clear of the Closing Doors 2013, or scotcd2013 for short, is a documentary based out of New York City. The film follows twenty poets and rappers through the subway lines of NYC to create a story based on their words.

Our Story
In June of 2013, Andrea awoke from a dream that proved to be the beginning of this project. The day after she had that dream, we began planning and putting together a team of people to work on the project with us. We posted an event on facebook calling for poets, rappers and any other performers that wanted to be a part of the film. The response was overwhelming. We didn't even have a plan, we just rolled with it. Over 100 people messaged us and emailed us expressing their interest in our dream. We knew we wanted underground artists whose talent was undiscovered and who didn't really have a voice the way more prominent artists do. Out of 100 talented people, 20 were chosen to perform their work on camera. The summer of 2013 was a long and hot one. Andrea and our crew scheduled times to meet our artists at their subway stops to perform. Temperatures reached high into the 90s last summer and everyone worked their way through the heat. We had performers at multiple subway stops, including Pelham Bay Park, Gun Hill Road, and Court Square (two blocks from the infamous 5 Pointz building). It was a hard summer but we were able to get through it with the dedication of our crew and cast. We finished filming toward the beginning of September.

Why We Need to Raise Money

We are now 6 months from the end of filming and need to raise money for our screening. We are very close to being done with the editing process and need to raise money to secure a venue, put the finishing touches on the documentary, and put together the "Ask Me About My Poetry" event.

The event will include the screening of SCOTCD2013, performances by some of our artists, a disc jockey, and food and drinks.

The money will go toward the venue, the food, drinks, dj, and other various needs involved with the planning of the event.

Any amount of money will help us. We have worked so hard to finish the film and we only need a few grand to truly complete this project.

Why It's Important

You should get involved because it will help us accomplish our dream of showcasing the undiscovered talent of New York. We began this project with underground artists in mind and we want to finish it in the same way. The words that these poets and rappers share can change lives. They make you think. They make you want to build a better world. These poets share their lives through their words and really bare all in order to create a change. From Roya Marsh's poem on social injustice to Charlie Scott's song about his addiction recovery, these poets want to help change the world through their words and it so important to broadcast their messages to the masses. That's why you should get involved. Help us create a change through words.

Thank you in advance for all of your support!
