Dear friends, as we were travelling through Asilah, a small coast town north of Morocco, we stumbled upon this amazing couple and human beings. Ahmed (Moroccan) and Christine (French). Who run and care for a small dog shelter, rescuing stray dogs and finding new families for them.

In Morocco, dogs are commonly seen as things, pest or dirty animals. Due to the religious and cultural conditioning, most street dogs here are harmed or killed. Basically you don’t see dogs in the streets, only cats. So there is a strong need of helping these creatures too.

A few days after we visited this shelter, a friend caught an image of some men, brutally killing dogs by the local beach with lethal poisonous injections. The same beach I've been going for my sunset and walks. It is still happening as I write this. It’s hard to see the truth until it happens right in front of you.

Why share this post? The shelter and animals here need some passion for animals and empathy. Without it, more dogs will be harmed, needing aid in Asilah and throughout northern Morocco. Ahmed and Christine are currently running the place with their own pocket money, with less funds and no proper help. Ahmed takes care of these dogs all by himself, at times with volunteers and friends who are there. This isn’t easy.

He has even sold his car to keep this place going. Now he uses a taxi to rescue more dogs. Not only to rescue, care, the medical bills, infrastructure and adoption. They have to also battle the authorities who are unsupportive, with cultural fear of dogs.

We wish not to give this a negative outlook, but that’s the other side of Morocco, but to give it the actions of kindness and giving. That's up to us now. As humans aiding animals too. It needs our actions and care. This shelter needs urgent help and given awareness.

1. Sterilization of the about 50 street dogs.

2. The Wood Shelter. To protect the dogs and puppies from heat and rain.

3. Care centre. Secure wood cabins/homes for the dogs who are healing and needing medical care.

4. Healthy dog food and daily expenses.

5. Volunteering program (WorkAway).

We aim to help raise a min of $1500.00 for this shelter. They need the funds to get this done. Without this maintaining budget, the shelter may closed down soon. I am here to get this word out, now it's all up to you. All funds received will be transferred to Ahmed's via Western Union/Bank Transfer.

SHARE. CONTRIBUTE. VOLUNTEER TIME.

We hope you choose to take One Step to help light up a few lives in Africa.
