Ash is a 2 month old kitten that was found after he was mowed down by a speeding motorcyclist in an office compound. The poor mite crawled under a steel ramp after the accident and we were unable to get to him until he finally crawled out the next day.
He was found to have lost mobility in both his hind legs and his breathing was very laboured. He was rushed to the vet immediately, but the diagnosis wasn’t good.
Diagnosis:
After doing x-rays, blood tests and ultrasounds, it was determined that Ash had:
- Hernia – the accident had ruptured his diaphragm and pushed most of his intestines as well as his stomach and liver into his chest cavity
- Fracture in his hind leg – The knee of his rear hind leg had been fractured in the accident and separated from his knee cap as well
Treatment to save Ash:
- Hernia – Emergency surgery required to pull the displaced organs back to their normal position and repair the rupture in Ash’s diaphragm. This is very risky as Ash is only a baby, and during the surgery he will be unable to breathe on his own and the surgery team has to do it for him. He will also need to be warded a further 7 days as he recovers from the operation.
- Fracture in his hind leg – As Ash has to undergo the Hernia operation, the surgery to fix his knee will be too much for his little body to take. So the vet has recommended to cast his leg for now and monitor if Ash’s body will be able to repair itself.
Treatment Costs:
The vet has given us an estimate of about $5,000 for all the tests, surgery as well as post-surgery care and medications that Ash requires. This doesn’t include the follow ups and any additional surgeries that Ash may require later.
We are appealing to the kind and wonderful hearts of everyone to help us raise the money for Ash so that he can have another chance at life that has been so cruelly taken away by an irresponsible motorcyclist.
Any additional funds will be donated to the Cat Welfare Society to help in their tireless work in human stray management

Ash has passed on
Update posted by Denise Teo at 01:22 pmIt upsets me greatly to write that Ash passed away yesterday morning at 9am from sudden cardiac arrest, the staff at the clinic was unable to resuscitate him. The post mortem showed the damage to his liver from the accident resulted in a severe infection that had spread to his. . . . .
Post Surgery Day 3 - Fever and Vomiting
Update posted by Denise Teo at 07:28 amHi all, Ash isn't doing so well today. He was running a fever last night and vomited twice. He's lethargic and not eating. So he's back on painkillers and hand fed, they suspect he is experiencing discomfort in his tummy.
Ash the Purple Ranger! Post Op Day 2
Update posted by Denise Teo at 08:16 amHi Ash is better! He's off the oxygen and doing well. He's also alert and playful. He is also really curious and very nosy about what's happening in the other cages around him.
