Art Show for Kids

My name is Cindy and I work at Chattanooga State Community
College satellite campus that serves Bledsoe and Sequatchie Counties and the
surrounding areas in East Tennessee. The majority of our students are first
year college students from these counties. The college is located in a very rural area
and most of the families live at or below the poverty level. It is a very close
community but unfortunately the school system does not have the money to offer
much extracurricular programs. Due to these budget issues, there are no visual
art programs in the local high schools. The ultimate goal of this adventure is
to provide our local county high school/college students a chance to
participate in an art show that will provide a place for them to exhibit their
artwork and receive recognition and feedback from the community. I believe this
will inspire them to attempt more creative ventures.

 

The purpose of this campaign is to fund a hanging system for
the art show that will last for many years and several more art shows. Neither
the college nor community has the funds required to install the needed system.
The building has concrete and metal walls so it requires a special hanging
system in order to be able to display any artwork. The proposed hanging system is
constructed of metal gliders that are mounted along the top of the wall but uses
moveable cables to support art work of various sizes. I estimate that we will
need about 220 feet of the actual hanging system along with the supporting
hardware and cables. The $3500 that we are trying to raise will go solely to
this endeavor. All the funds will be used to purchase the hanging system and to
get it installed.

 

I am also working with galleries and museums from the
closest metropolitan areas for support. I think it would benefit the winners to
exhibit their work at the next level. Any amount of money that is left over
will be used to provide prizes for the winners and to help with any expenses
that are needed to exhibit their work at any of the outside organizations that
agree to participate.
