Hi, all. You almost certainly don’t know me, but I’m Steven. For years I’ve been trying (with varying amounts of minor success) to pursue my passion as an illustrator. I studied art for many years, ultimately earning a degree in art/illustration. After going almost fully digital and self-educating in many elements of digital art I've sought various illustration and design related jobs.
Sometimes it can be a struggle to keep apace with advancing technology. Don’t misunderstand; I know talent and hard work matter a great deal. But low-quality equipment can hamper anyone in any field. Clients want their work done fast and at a high quality. And currently, I’m having a very hard time putting out high resolution images at any kind of acceptable consistency. This makes it near impossible to make money as a digital artist. I’m looking to move forward with a few personal and professional projects that will require better tools than are within my means to purchase. For example, I’ve been working on video editing projects and illustrating various pieces, including a webcomic about social anxiety and depression -- two topics close to my heart.
I need to make more art to make better art. It is my dream to make a living as an artist and I'd like to be able to submit the highest quality of work to employers. As well, I’d like to produce my comic more frequently. It has helped me understand and communicate elements of my own anxiety in a way I couldn’t otherwise. I hope to expand the scope and output of my work in general. But my five-year-old laptop isn’t quite up to the task. It’s time to upgrade. I’ve done my research over many months, purchased or scavenged a few parts, hoping to build a decent PC to replaced the noisy and underpowered machine I’m working with. But money is very tight right now (the cumulative result of life events) and my non-art related work doesn’t provide a regular paycheck. A new computer requires more funding than I can raise on my own. I need to raise as much as $900 (USD).
This is me -- fully aware there are others whose needs are far greater than mine -- reaching out to an Internet full of strangers, asking for some help. Absolutely any amount you can give helps me more than you know. Thanks very much for stopping to read this.
