WHO WE ARE....

Jukwaa Arts is a theatre company based in Mombasa Kenya. We use theatre, dance, music and poetry to communicate, educate, and entertain. We use the transformative tool of theatre to explore contemporary issues in our society. We are a vibrant team of young artists who keep abreast with global trends, exploring new media while experimenting the intersection of conventional theatre and emerging and popular culture.

Having worked with artists for over 5 years, Jukwaa Arts felt the need provide a platform for young upcoming artists to showcase their work mainly to fellow artists to help them experiment, grow and develop their craft as they prepare for the paying stage. In August 2019, Jukwaa Arts began a weekly event dubbed Art Cocktail.

WHAT IS ART COCKTAIL...

Art Cocktail is a weekly hangout for artists and lovers of art hosted by Jukwaa Arts Productions Mombasa every Tuesday. This is a space for freedom of expression by artists which provides growth and development of creatives across various artistic disciplines and is presented in a physical and digital space.

Art Cocktail was developed from the belief in the importance of providing safe, organic, discursive spaces for new artists to meet, test, share and create work.

Innovation, experimentation and creativity are the backbone of Art Cocktail.

OUR ARTISTIC WINS...

Over 80 artists have staged their work on Art Cocktail since its inception. Over 3000 audiences reached through the physical and digital stage, 4 music groups have been born out of collaborations of artists who met at Art Cocktail,6 artists got national and international support of their work from the Art Cocktail platform.

THE THREAT...

Art Cocktail being a free gig is supported by revenue from Jukwaa Arts' paid performances. This was the case until the Covid 19 Pandemic happened. Our paid gigs came to a standstill therefore we have been struggling to pay rent to keep our space, consequently Art Cocktail is at risk.

OUR CAMPAIGN...

We seek to raise 4000USD to enable us to sustain our operations and more so to keep Art Cocktail alive for the over 80 artists who are regular performers and audiences of Art Cocktail. This money will keep the space alive for the next 6 months as we await normalcy to resume.

During this pandemic, the space has provided artists with a breathing space and our community has consumed our art as a healer and a reason to smile through the gloom of the pandemic.
