Arian Ardie Forever A Dragon

Once a Komodo and forever a Dragon, Arian Ardie may be gone, but he leaves us with a lifelong legacy as a champion of the JIS community. Arian, graduated class of '77, at the ripe age of 15, he was an athlete for both the varsity rugby & soccer teams and to this day he still shares the record for the youngest graduate in the school's 67 year history. After graduating, he became proponent in the establishment of the Alumni Association and for a time served on the JIS Board of Governors after returning to Jakarta with his new family.

Arian's two younger sisters, Agustina & Arsiyanti, are both graduates of JIS with accolades of their own and all four of his children attended the school for numerous years throughout their time Indonesia. Arian always took a keen interest in JIS events, volunteering his help and supporting extra curricular athletic activities.

Alongside his fellow JIS alumni Dan Roberts, Arian was Chair of the Board of Patrons (Chief Clown in Charge) for Red Nose Foundation, educating children in impoverished communities, teaching them performance art and circus skills He worked side-by-side and ankle-deep on relief efforts with JIS Peduli during the floods in Jakarta. As coordinator of the Jakarta Touch Rugby Team, he survived the Bali Bombings and bore witness to the deaths of his teammates he was supposed accompany that fateful night in 2002. He later spearheaded the "Bali Cinta Damai" movement with his sister Agustina. When the tsunami struck Aceh in 2004, Arian rushed to the aid as a first responder, providing much needed supplies and materials to rebuild the devastated community.

Despite all this, Arian was fortunate to pass away peacefully from a heart attack in his sleep on February 11th, just a few days after his 58th birthday. However only a week prior to his death, his daughter Tatiana, had given birth to her second son Valero. The infant was born in critical condition and up until his grandfather's passing, he was reliant on heavy machinery to breath. Arian had also scheduled to take his ailing wife Jilliah, to Singapore the following week for a long overdue back surgery and mandatory examination of her ongoing struggle with kidney failure.

Foregoing her own medical care in consideration of Valero's crippling hospital bill in addition to the mounting legal fees after the funeral arrangements, Arian's grieving widow Jilliah is now faced with an imminent move from a home she can no longer afford. With the support of her sons, Ali, Halim and Malik, who have dropped everything to fly home from various parts of the globe, the brothers hope to make this tough transition as painless as possible for their mother and their sister with her newborn son.

Arian was a true Dragon, who gave his all for this community he called home. The JIS Alumni wants him to know that his legacy will live on and that "kita peduli juga."
