The Animal Rescue Centre (ARC) in Canacona South Goa is a small self funded charity that is devoted to looking after the worst cases of animal neglect in the area. It is the place people are referred to if they see an animal in distress.
I came across them by chance when volunteering for an Anti Rabies Vax and Spay drive in 2016 and was taken by the amount of good they were able to do with the barest minimum of income.
Every penny donated will reach them to pay for a qualified vet, supplies both medical and general, and most importantly for good quality food, which is remarkably expensive .
The monsoon will be arriving in a few months and the tourists will disappear along with the businesses they support along the beach, and donations will dry up just as the heavens open.
I would like to be able to take a van, car or other transport to Margao, the commercial capital of Goa (50Km), or even Mumbai (630 Km) and buy in bulk the good quality dry and wet dog and cat feed they will so desperately need in the coming months which will give the animals the best chance of survival.
Please help me by donating to a cause that I personally have an emotional stake in
You can visit their facebook page to see what's been going on recently. Be warned some of it is frankly upsetting but reflects the challenges they deal with on a daily basis
The dog in the video below is a young german shep cross. He was found with all four limbs broken and with a head wound, buried in a shallow grave but still alive. Named Hero by staff he is receiving treatment and there is a video of him drinking which is a good sign. I hope to meet him and report back when I get there. Watch the video below.
This is an extreme case of abuse but traffic accidents, scaldings, sickness, and unwanted litters are a daily occurrence.
