A project to put up a small memorial reef in honor of Antonio Rafael "Arbie" F. Bisenio, Jr. in the waters just off Batangas in the Verde Island Passage. More details are available at the Facebook Page ARBIE's REEF.
We'll be using an innovative and multi awarded reef module design called Reef Balls. These have been proven to work in 59+ countries with over 4,000 projects and well over a half million Reef Ball modules of many sizes deployed.
Arbie, a long time diver and divemaster, was a security expert. He studied at U.P. Los Baños and was a member of the Upsilon Sigma Phi. He passed away in 2012 and is sorely missed. This reef will be a chance for us to remember him through a living memorial that can expect to grow larger as each year passes.
The reef itself will be in about 25 feet (8 meters) of water and stretch approximately 65 feet (20 meters) in length. It will provide shelter and hiding places for juvenile fish and other marine life and, as time passes, will also provide a stable base for coral of all types to establish themselves and grow.
