The Hogar de Ancianos Asociación Vicentina de Escazú (Escazu’s Vicentine Association Elderly Residence) needs your support!

We’re a nonprofit elderly residence located in Barrio Santa Teresa, San Antonio, Escazú in San José, Costa Rica. Our goal is to be one of the best residences in the country and to give loving and comprehensive care to all our residents.

Our funding comes both from the families of some residents that pay for their staying, and from government support for the residents that do not have the means to pay their stay.

Our institution has experienced severe losses due to COVID-19. There was an outbreak of this virus in August, with many of our staff and residents becoming infected. Of 39 residents that we had at the end of July, 24 became sick, 14 were sent to the hospital, and sadly 10 did not come back.

We now have 27 residents, but our funding is not enough to cover the associated expenses. The funding that we were receiving from the government has mostly vanished, a consequence of the fact that the revenues earmarked for that purposes dried up with the economic crisis due to COVID-19. We have organized local fundraising activities, but this has been insufficient to fund our current expenses.

In addition, we now have spare capacity that we could use to host elders from residences that have had to close because of the crisis, but we need funding for that.

Our target is to raise $25,000, which would help fund our current expenses and the costs of accepting 15 new residents until the end of October, when we expect government funding to resume.

Thanks for your support – together we can get trough this!
