The Apollo Theatre is currently the only operational art deco film theatre in South Africa.The theatre is located in the Karoo town of Victoria West on the R63 Route.
The theatre has a long history stretching as far back as 1910, with a narrative of many phases of the cinema industry, films, film producers,actors, actresses, people, history and stages social cohesion over time.
The Apollo Theatre is not only a historical landmark but also an asset stimulating tourism to the town of Victoria West.
The asset is managed by a non profit company, the Apollo Development Association and a volunteered board of directors.
The main objective of this funding campaign is directed to re-establish a
prestigious Apollo Annual Film Festival, bid for international industry
focused film festivals, and attract emerging filmmakers to utilise the
Apollo Theater complex as a workplace for industry development, use the
venue to create unique film experiences and leisure events for tourists
and guests from neighboring towns, South Africa and Foreign Tourists. In this process the development of the youth and social cohesion should benefit from the influence of film and the film industry to inspire, entertain and educate audiences
