Yvette Raphael by birth, aunty in the twitter streets and fighter in activist circles is a well-known face in feminist and human rights movements in South Africa.

This year she proudly commemorates her 20th year living with HIV.

It’s not always been an easy road, there has been the tremendous loss of fellow comrades who died protesting to get lifesaving HIV meds, there have been the fights for universal treatment and care, the fight to get female controlled prevention options and the tireless war against corruption and the greed of pharma. She has toyi-toyid, marched and been known to throw a bra or hang up a panty washing line arm-in-arm with different generations of activists in local and international forums all in the name of justice.

20 years is a long time but aunty is as tireless as ever. There’s a no party coz the pandemic rages on however as executive director for local HIV prevention NGO Advocacy for the Prevention of HIV (APHA) Yvette is appealing to all allies to donate what you can to assist APHA to provide psycho-social support for victims of GBV, trauma and those living with HIV. You will be able to keep track of activities and beneficiaries through updates on www.apha.org.za and our social media channels twitter and facebook.

Gratitude! Amandla!
