Campaign Story
On this year's International Working Women's Day in Austin, Texas, women activists and community members were holding a procession in honor of Veneranda Martinez and other victims of sexist violence when they were targeted for a mass arrest by Austin Police Department. Over two dozen people were taken into custody.
The procession was moving without incident on Montopolis Dr. in East Austin when APD began to kettle and brutally arrest people. Austin police don't want anyone to exercise Democratic rights to assemble or demonstrate, especially revolutionary women fighting for a better world!
They even brutally arrested photographers who were standing on the sidewalk taking pictures.
The Austin police didn't protect Veneranda, just as they don't protect the working class or revolutionary activists.
These brave marchers need as much support as possible, as they will face financial burdens for legal costs and possible loss of work.
