I am an American, and my fiancee, Meriam, a native Filipino, is a professor of Civil Engineering at Malayan College in Davao City. Before Malayan, she was professor at University of Mindanao also in Davao.
While at U of M, Meriam worked with two colleagues and close friends, Charlito and Cari Leigh Milan, also CE professors. A few days ago, Cari Leigh, a passenger in a company truck, was killed in an accident. She was 29 years old.
I was informed about an hour ago before writing this, the Milan family home was totally destroyed by fire today, the day of their daughter's funeral. They had received many donations from friends which were all destroyed by the fire along with all their personal belongings including the memorabilia of their dear daughter. Gone...
It is really hard to fathom the enormity of this tragedy. I personally knew Cari Leigh while I lived in Davao City from 2013 to 2017. She was a great girl and a fine teacher. My fiancee's good friend is suddenly gone and now, and so is their family home. I hope to reach the sum of P2,000,000 for them to help rebuild what they lost this week. The money cannot, of course, replace their precious daughter, nor will it ease their pain from that tragic accident. This is to help her mom, Charlito, and dad, Antonio, and 2 brothers ease their financial burdens they now face in the wake of their loss of Cari. Please refer to Cari Leigh Milan's Facebook page for further information on the events in this post.
Any contributions to the Milan family will be most helpful and appreciated. I thank all of you who will take the time and care to donate-- Bruce Warner, Hollywood, Florida, USA [email protected]
