Campaign Story
Frankie and Wendy are raising funds for Anthony, our severely mentally handicapped brother. He is scheduled for surgery - and the earliest date for the surgery is 17 October 2023. That is in 18 months' time.
Anthony needs to use a catheter permanently until he can have a surgical procedure. His quality of life is severely impaired. He can't manage and needs full-time care at the moment. We pay for a carer to change and monitor the catheter, which needs to be changed regularly. Anthony also has been back and forth to the hospital many times this year with problems with the catheter - making him very sick each time. For many hours we have sat at the hospital! Anthony has had a really tough time this year.
In January, my brother suffered from kidney failure, and devastatingly, we were told he might even die. Anthony pulled through but still had severe health problems and contracted covid - he was isolated and alone in his ward on oxygen but pulled through again. What a fighter.
Anthony's mom also passed away in April this year, and he is struggling to adjust.
We would like to fundraise so that his surgical procedure can be done sooner through a private hospital. Please consider Anthony's plight. He deserves to get better. Anthony's operation is estimated to cost R150000 at a private hospital, but he will be able to live a full and rewarding life.
Anthony needs to see a urologist and will need prostate surgery to enable him to walk without the catheter bag. He isn't managing well without this operation, and at 63 years old and mentally handicapped with some related physical disabilities, he cannot work.
We would be most grateful for your help.
