Answering the Call: A Ministry Degree for Michelle

Greetings Beloved,

 

Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page! Here are a few reflections on my ministry calling experience and vision for the future, which I hope you will generously support.

 

It was March 25, 2012, a day like any other day. I was home puttering in my kitchen, not thinking about much, maybe humming a song (smile).

 

Just an ordinary day.  Then all of a sudden -- quietly and reverently -- I experienced The Call.  Yes, That Call -- the Father called me to the ministry!!  I know, right?!

 

I could not believe this.  Me a minister?!   Yet, it happened.

 

Yes -- I've loved the Lord since childhood. But it never crossed my mind that I would counsel, pastor, preach, administer, etc. or do anything ministers do.

 

I later realized, I’ve actually been doing a lot of this in my law practice, for several years now lol!  I’ve also experienced the trials and tribulations that lead people to seek solace and a closer walk with God. The Bible says we enter the Kingdom of Heaven through much tribulation.  Lord knows, I’ve had that for sure, so I can identify with people and serve them..hmm!

 

God has been preparing me to minister and I didn’t even know it! He decided it from the foundation of the world.  Yes Lord!  And He will get the glory.

 

So I’ve been working out how Father would have me transition; and this is where you come in.  You know I’ve been a lawyer for a long time. I have transferable skills, but I need to go back to school, agreed? The Call is just the beginning. I need to prepare.

 

So I’ve started a war chest -- would you give? No gift is too small or too large.

 

As much as I've enjoyed litigating, warring with other lawyers in contested litigation is officially no longer my path. Instead, I’m changing the practice's concentration to a faith-based legal ministry, emphasizing doctrine, counseling, conciliation and mediation to solve issues, rather than going straight to court.

 

I’ll still help with cases as needed. But my focus will be helping solve problems at the root, and helping heal as many families as I can.

 

I’ve already begun ministry studies at the Institutes of First Baptist Church of Glen Arden, Maryland, my home church, where I’m working towards ordination. It’s a lengthy process as it should be. Two classes down, several more to go. Straight A average so far!

 

I will immediately use your generous donations to: 1) pay my Institutes tuition; 2) pay for books and transportation costs; 3) cover personal expenses related; 4) and save toward graduate school tuition.

 

I’m looking into grants and degree programs. Howard is the obvious choice for African American ministry. But Georgetown, American and GW have cutting edge dual degree programs as well. We have serious spiritual issues in family law today; and I’d like to lobby Congress as a part of corporate ministry.
