Community letter- Help required for our angel Anré

Dear community, family and friends

Our family has decided to reach out to you for help.

After more than a year after our now 4 year old little one, Anré has drowned the financial and daily responsibilities for Anré has taken its toll on our family. We need your help to start living life again after his accident, and to be able to carry on and support for little Anré .

Anré was left with severe brain damage, mostly to his Basel Ganglia, after he drowned on the 8th of September 2018.

Although it breaks our hearts to even admit this, Anré is now classified as a “quadriplegic, spastic and dyskinetic cerebral palsy” child. Anré has the most severe form of CP. He is no longer able to walk, talk, smile, laugh, eat, swallow or see clearly. The tissue around Anré’s joints has hardened, he has no range of movement and his hip bones has dislocated from the sockets due to his severe spasms. Anré struggles daily with Pulmonary lung disease, which he was diagnosed with as a secondary injury causedby the drowning and ECMO-machine.

Anré is in pain most of the time. On 25 February 2020, we received news, after the latest MRI-scan that his brain has shrunk and can now be compared to an elderly person’s brain.

As a family we have reached out to all corners of the world in the hope of finding a cure. We were left with the realization that we can only try to make Anré’s little world more comfortable and shower him with love, acceptance and patience. Although he deserves so much more.

Anré is fully dependant on a caregiver with daily feeding, personal care, positioning, medical needs, hygiene, physio etc. We have tried to cope on our own, however this has led our family struggling financially and more alarming emotionally and psychologically.

We have made the decision to hire a caregiver for Anré. Helping Anré toget all the attention and special needs he requires. Such as the following:

• Monitoring his health on an hourly basis

• Performing passives which are stretching of limbs & muscles to minimize spasms

• Preparing specific meals to be able to pass through a 2mm feeding tube

• Maintaining oral and physical hygiene

• Preparing & monitoring his medication which he gets 3 times a day.

• Hourly positioning

• Reading

• Practising speech, occupational, music and oxygen therapy on a daily basis.

• Preparing and maintaining a loving and positive environment.

It takes a lot of support from people like you to achieve our mission.

We humbly need monthly sponsorships to be able to hire a professional, kind, full-time caregiver, also help us pay for Anré’s monthly medication, physio therapy sessions and outstanding medical bills.

His physio therapy is an essential need to keep his little body moving, helping him to manage pain, minimise spasms and prevent disease.

Anre’s Caregiver cost is = R 10 000 per month

Anre’s physio therapy is R 550 per session 2 times a week= R 4 400.00 per month

Anre’s medication = R 3000.00 per month

Outstanding medical bills,

Entabeni hospital , Mediclinic Limpopo, DR. J VD Merwe = R 7 333. 70

These are only a few examples of the intensive care regimes that Anrérequires, on a daily basis.

We are reaching out, asking you to assist us to look after our little boy.

Take our hand, and please help Anré with his journey.

We need you.

Most importantly, Anré needs you.

Yours sincerely

Anré’s parents

Anré Bornman and Suné Koch
