It has been a dream of mine ever since I was a little girl to live on a farm in nature.I grew up in Vancouver, BC and always wanted out of the city; we didn’t have a car, so I didn’t get out very often. Instead, I found empty lots that had been claimed by nature and forested areas to play in where ever we moved in the city.
I was the girl catching frogs and lizards, talking to garter snakes and letting spiders walk on my arms (only the brown, non-biting spiders). I will still let out a gasp of delight if I see a garter snake, a frog or a lizard sunning itself on the trail and I love looking at interesting bugs. I once had a Praying Mantis on my head; I was playing mini golf in Osoyoos with my brother, and I had knocked the ball out of the playing area into a bush, when I bent down to find the ball I felt something move on my head, it was a Praying Mantis! I was delighted and took him back to our campsite.
I now have an opportunity to volunteer for room and board on a farm for the summer. As this is a non-paid position, I am fund raising a little money for travel, and monthly expenses. My monthly expenses will consist of: cell phone bill, a small storage locker (for what is left after I sell and give away most of my belongings), gas (for the two days I am not working, if I need to go into town) and any gear I might need to purchase (rain gear, we work rain or shine).
While talking to a good friend, the one that suggested I look into doing this, she says I should explain, (in the short version), why I am requesting funding. For years I have looked for a good full time job (one I could live on, above min wage), I even went back to school to upgrade. I have spent many hours in job search and going to interviews. I would often make it to the top few, but not for the one position they were hiring for. It has been difficult to always be looking for ways to make enough money to pay the monthly bills, gas and include a few groceries. I am not a competitive person..........my feeling is let's all work together to create a Better World!
For many years, I have looked for places to live, usually moving every year to two years, as something would happen that would cause us to move. I raised my daughter, Kendra and she recently graduated and moved out of Mission, she is more of a city girl. The longest I have lived anywhere in my life was 6 years when Kendra was young. All this moving, looking for places to live, looking for jobs, figuring out how to make enough to live on (I make crafts and sell them as well), has been very stressful for me, as I am into my 50's now, I have been feeling that I should go to another area, do something else. I very strongly asked for a sign and my beautiful Buzz Cat was hit and passed on within 24 hours of asking; he was only 5.. I have received more signs as well, an Eagle flew over my head a few days ago when I asked again.
All I have wanted is to live in the country and grow things, to be in nature, where i feel at Home. This is my opportunity to go now. I thank each and everyone of you, as every contribution helps. If you would like a copy of my e-book in exchange for your contribution “Seven Steps to a Healthier You”, please send me an email to [email protected] and I will email you a copy.
I am looking forward to this adventure and will keep you updated with pictures and stories.
