New Kidney! New Life!

Hello, my name is Ma. Anabelle Cahandig – Dazo, and I was born in Cotabato City, Philippines. At the age of 33, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Nina Aveline. I fought for my child’s conception in spite of the risks. While I was pregnant with her on the 3rd month, it was detected that there are abnormally high levels of creatinine and a possible malfunction or failure of my kidneys.

Come June of 2017 – I was diagnosed with STAGE 5 Chronic Kidney Disease, secondary to Chronic Glomerulonephritis (CGN). I was aghast upon learning that a disease quickly progressed and was fearful for my life and my daughter who was barely a year old.

In September 2017, I started getting regular dialysis treatments, usually three times a week for four hours at a time, Doctors have informed me that a transplant is required at the earliest as I am already suffering with advanced stage.

Since 2016, we have been paying more out-of-pocket for tests and treatments more than expected, despite having health coverage. With drug costs and basic commodities increasing, our funds are depleting in spite both of our family’s efforts to help with hospital costs.

This June 26, 2019, I found my perfectly matched new kidney and had a kidney transplant. Much has been incurred for the matching costs but has greatly helped me of finally getting a transplant. We are currently working on possible ways to add funds required for the payment of the surgery but the amount is beyond our reach as we already are mounting medical debt. And after the surgery we are facing another challenge - my anti rejection medicines.
