Strelly tells the story of Anna, a young woman caught up in the spiral of domestic abuse with no end in sight. Although Anna can tell what is happening is wrong, she is ill-equipped and under-educated in how to break the cycle. We will capture this feeling of helplessness by combining musical story-telling and cinematic imagery, challenging the audience to address their attitudes towards domestic abuse and what the signs can be to recognise it in the everyday.
'Anna' by Strelz is a musical story written by Strelly, based on personal experience and stories from within his community. The song has been inspiring to his peers and has been picked up by the local council to workshop in schools, challenging students attitudes towards domestic abuse and teaching them to see the signs. We want to expand on the local success of this community project by making a narrative film with a music video format to relate to young people from the community. creating a film that will inspire and have an impact on the community.
This is a youth engagement project bringing professional filmmakers to work with young people from Bollo Brook Youth Centre. Strelly frequents the youth center and with help from the center manager, is compiling a team of young actors from the center to play the roles in his story. The track is soon to be work-shopped in schools in Ealing to educated and challenge students to look for signs and triggers of domestic abuse. The video will be a valuable tool to engage this demographic, as it will be visually on-trend and current whilst dealing with a heavy subject matter. We aim to widen the audience and begin meaningful dialogues via social and online distribution.
