Zavetišče Horjul is one of registered small animal shelters in Slovenia, but they stand out from the rest by their exceptional care and dedication to their residents. Even though their main focus are pet animals - dogs and cats, they never say no to any animal in need and thus also accept birds, rabbits, sheep... The shelter team consists of hard working people that dedicated their lives to help animals and to put them first in all aspects. This often means going the extra mile when others would have already given up.They are also playing a big role in educating the public about responsible ownership and quality care of animals as well as providing all necessary information and support before, during and after adoption, which is crucial in providing good homes for all animals.
Like all shelters in Slovenia, they get funds from the Slovenian government for basic things which translates into 30 days of shelter housing and spaying of cats and female dogs. Costs of everything else (and there are a lot of them) are therefore covered by donations.
The whole world is feeling the impact of Covid-19 and animal shelters are no exception. Adoptions have been stopped, everybody is tightening their budgets, donations are scarce. While governments are fighting to protect their citizens and are trying to lessen the impact this epidemic is going to have on the economy, animal shelters can easily be forgotten or at least put aside for the time being. But animals in need are still being accepted and shelter residents still need daily food and medication. If ever, now is the time to support the right people and organizations and shelter Horjul is definitely one of those.
Whatever you can afford through this stressful time is going to be greatly appreciated, every donation counts and every cent is going to be used for the right purpose. Thank you very much and stay healthy!
