As per the World bank press 21 January 2021 press release “…Lebanon has been facing compounded and unprecedented crises. A severe economic and financial crisis led to a projected 19.2% decline in GDP in 2020, triple digit inflation and a projected increase in poverty to 45% (almost half and growing)… The situation has been further compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic with the recent alarming surge in the number of infected cases, a severely strained health and medical system and the devastating economic impact of lockdowns on jobs and livelihoods...

- Lebanese are not able to buy even their basic necessities for day to day living because everything is imported from abroad in US dollar as the $ currency value vs the Lebanese pound increased 12 folds to date…
- The crisis is so deep threatening people’s livelihood. animal welfare is the least of their concern
- People keep letting go of their pets: cats & dogs as they can no longer afford them.
- On top of that, stray dogs in Lebanon are estimated between 40,000 to 50,000
- abused, run over by cars, poisoned or shot. Unneutered, many newborn puppies are in danger too are starving and dying miserably. Many dogs are tortured some wounded; others have their ears cut off for dogs' fights purposes.
We are PAW Lebanon (Perpetual Animal Watch), a licensed animal welfare not for-profit organization working day and night answering calls and messages daily, rescue feed treat and re-home dogs and cats with the minimum self-financing resources available.
We started as a solution-oriented animal lovers group who came together in September 2018 with the aim to create sustainable solutions for animal problems in Lebanon. Since then we have been on the grounds have catered for more than a 1000 rescues medical treatment and adoption cases have done all we could for what we believe is right, given the dire circumstances and minimal resources, many animals were saved received medical treatments a large number were rehomed others are still in boarding and foster homes.
- We are delighted that we got hold of an abandoned old, damaged villa but with large spaces indoors and outdoors, a breathtaking view that can be a heavenly shelter for the abandoned, hurt and lost animals.
- Our plan is to make it a permanent home for some and a temporary home for others waiting to be rehomed, to find a refuge some peace, and some happiness…
- We were told by the municipality that it needs to be restructured: cleaned disinfected partly rebuilt, to fix a medical care room for injured dogs, short run stay room for lost dogs, special needs rooms for aggressive and traumatic dogs, a room for mothers and their babies, rooms for human guardians’ cleaners and caregiver, all to be heated and insulated…
- fence several outdoor playgrounds to separate packs of dogs that don’t get along
We appreciate your donations to help us get food, medications, pay for spaying bills over and above all the refurbishing work the location needs asap to prevent abuse from the nearby neighborhood.
For the first phase we need around $ 20,000 to jump start this project and make the location safe and livable first.

Such a noble cause in these ugly moments! Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them. ― Dalai Lama
