Campaign Story
ANGLO AMERICAN CEMETERY BEIRUT, LEBANON
The Anglo American Cemetery is located in Furn El-Shebbek in the outskirts of Beirut. It is one of the rare, leafy corners of this frenetic city and is an area of peace and calm that we are aspiring to maintain.
I represent the Anglo American Cemetery Association as Secretary and am using this site to help raise funds for some well overdue care and maintenance. We are in desperate need of some major pieces of equipment to help the gardeners, eg, strimmers, water pumps as well as the basics like wheelbarrows, shears and pruners. In addition, we have a major issue with the stability of a major wall, which were it not for the fortunate positioning of a telegraph pole would imminently collapse.
We regularly have visitors from all over the world who come to visit relatives or for historical research. We have within its midst an ex-Colditz PoW, an RAF Pilot shot down over Syria in 1956 as well as a whole host of people who have contributed to charities and NGOs and other good causes over many years. Many notable academics from the American University in Beirut who have passed away over 100 years ago are also within the site.
With no government or council support we rely entirely on contributions. Your kind help for this unusual cause will be respectfully and considerately applied.
